Collegiate a cappella group is a chorus group, formed by college students, that makes music without using instruments. This extracurricular activity has been trending as these groups continue to grow.
The first collegiate a cappella group recorded and formed at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1873. This trend began to grow amongst the Ivy Leagues colleges,in the 1900s, such as Yale, and Brown University.

With this trend growing into the media, with shows such as "The Sing-Off", collegiate groups and other a cappella groups are given an opportunity to compete and gain exposure as a group, with the viewers of America. Many collegiate groups do enter and compete amongst other collegiate groups in competitions such as BOSS, and Varsity Vocals.
As previously posted, a cappella groups used to sing in churches but now it has expanded to college campuses. Students are not creating their own versions of popular pop songs, such as, Just the way you are by Bruno Mars, and It’s time by Imagine Dragons.
