President & Founder of the FIT Skyliners
Q: How old were you when you discovered your interest in music?
A: I've always been surrounded by music, but I really became serious about it in third grade when I first started learning the violin.
Q: Who was your biggest influence?
A: It's hard to pin-point who has influenced me the most, however I've always looked up to my sister, who was involved in many different choral groups when she was in high school, and was the lead in multiple musicals, so I always to at least match her if I couldn't beat her. (Laughs)

Q: What are some of your musical accomplishments?
A: I have played multiple instruments including violin, guitar and piano. However, my biggest accomplishments are; being the section leader of my women's Acapella choir during my senior year of high school, and creating the FIT Skyliners.
Q: Why and when did you start this club? (Why a cappella)
A: I began starting the process of beginning the club during the Spring of 2013 (the end of my freshman year). I knew I wanted to start a club even before I started my freshman year because I have been surrounded by music my whole life and Acapella music is my favorite. It's so different to break a song down and re-create it using only voices.
Q: Have you ever started a club before?
A: I have not started a club before, this would be my first. I am the secretary of Theatre Ensemble, and we are in the process of re-branding the club, so basically it is like starting it from scratch.
Q: Was the club difficult to start? (hardest/easiest part)
A: There were definitely some challenges involved in starting the club. For the most part getting people interested who would join, writing a club constitution, and getting the student council to vote on it were pretty easy. The hardest part has been finding rehearsal space, which we are still looking for.
Q: How do you come up with new performances?
A: I like to Youtube a lot of Acapella groups and see what they are up to. Usually I will listen to the radio for what current songs are on, then see if another group has done it and how they did it, and then I will put my own spin on the song.
Q: Do you feel like Pitch Perfect or Glee rightfully portray what goes on in the club?
A: I think both Pitch Perfect and Glee both touch upon the basis of Acapella and what it's all about (Pitch Perfect more so than Glee). Yet, there is so much to Acapella, that people cannot begin to understand until they do it themselves. It's really hard, because you have to hold your own part against someone else's with no accompaniment to back you up. It's all on you.
Q: How do you feel about the club's progress?
A: I was extremely impressed with how our first semester went. The group surpassed my expectations and towards the end of the semester I realized I could have pushed them a little harder to learn more, but in the end I'm extremely happy with where we are. Just because of one semester we've gained so much more popularity on campus, that I cannot wait to see what this semester brings!
Q: What was your club's best accomplishment?
A: So far the club's best accomplishment was learning four songs in just four short months and then putting on a concert at the end of that semester. I don't know of any club on campus that has done that before!
Q: Where do you see the club going this year and in the next few years?
A: I see the club growing, and constantly pushing themselves to do more. I hope the club will eventually be asked to perform at venues around the city, and in the upcoming years we can hopefully perform in the ICCA's!
